Why choose Stanthorpe State School?
True to our motto, 'Striving for Higher Things', we aim to raise the abilities of our students, both academically and socially, in a safe and engaging learning environment.
Our quality teaching staff work in combination with specialty teachers to cater the unique needs of every student. Furthermore, we continually reflect upon and celebrate our students’ achievements of our school’s core values: Be Resilient, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be a Learner.
In addition to the delivery of our comprehensive and relevant curriculum, we offer a range of additional learning programs and extracurricular activities to excite and extend students, of which we are very proud, including:
An excellent Instrumental Music program through which students can learn to play string, brass or woodwind instruments with expert instruction; attend Instrumental Music Camps; and represent their school in local and regional Eisteddfods.
A broad Arts curriculum, with every student receiving specialist lessons in drama, dance, music, and digital media. Lunchtime Drama Club and Art Club are big favourites with the students.
Our year 5 and 6 students all study the Italian language.
Our dedicated Physical Education (PE) teacher ensures a continual variety in the PE program.
An innovative Digital Technologies program with specialist lessons by an ICT educator on the latest in ICT equipment, including robots, drones, digital microscopes, digital cameras, laptops, iPods and iPads trials in the classrooms.
Our important role in serving this culturally rich and diverse rural community is reflected in our schools’ active participation in an array of community events, including our town’s annual ANZAC day march and Remembrance service, music Eisteddfod, Rural Show, Art Gallery displays, bi-annual Apple and Grape Festival parade, Christmas festivities and involvement in a variety of community charity fundraising initiatives throughout each year.
Open communication is valued and encouraged within our school. Our Principal and our teaching and support staff are always on hand to assist parents. We genuinely embrace the input of our parents and families and offer continual assessment and feedback with respect to our students, not only in academic achievement, but in social and behavioural aspects as well, with learning profiles supporting our academic school reports.
