Why choose Stanthorpe State School?
True to our motto, 'striving for higher things, we aim to raise the abilities of our students, both academically and socially, in a safe and engaging learning environment.
Our quality teaching staff work in combination with specialty teachers, including Instrumental and Music teachers, Physical Education teachers and Language Other Than English (LOTE) teachers, and Learning Support staff, to cater the unique needs of every student. Furthermore, we continually reflect upon and celebrate our students’ achievements of our school’s seven core values: personal responsibility; safety; respect; acceptance; belonging; learning and success, through which we challenge ourselves to do our very best.
In addition to the delivery of our comprehensive and relevant curriculum, we offer a range of additional learning programs and extracurricular activities to excite and extend students, including an excellent Instrumental Music program through which students can learn to play string, brass or woodwind instruments with expert instruction, attend Instrumental Music Camps and represent their school in local and regional Eisteddfods. We also offer a LOTE program, through which our students learn Italian from our visiting Italian teacher, a dedicated Physical Education (PE) program with our specialty PE teacher and an innovative Information Communication Technologies (ICT) and e-Learning program, supported by a specialty ICT educator and the latest in ICT equipment, including interactive whiteboards, digital microscopes, digital cameras, laptops, iPods and iPad trials in the classrooms.
Our important role in serving this culturally rich and diverse rural community is reflected in our schools’ active participation in an array of community events, including our town’s annual ANZAC day march and Remembrance service, music Eisteddfod, Rural Show, Art Gallery displays, bi-annual Apple and Grape Festival parade, Christmas festivities and involvement in a variety of community charity fundraising initiatives throughout each year.
We are conscious of our environmental responsibilities and as an Earth Smart School, actively participate in the Earth Smart program, developing environmentally friendly initiatives within our school. We are also a leading school with the Microsoft for Schools program, offering mentorship to fellow schools with respect to the innovative use of technologies in education.
We foster strong bonds within our school community, achieving great ends for our students through the cooperative work of our enthusiastic Parents and Citizens Association.
Open communication is valued and encouraged within our school. Our Principal and Assistant Principals are always on hand and available to parents, as are our teaching staff and support staff. We genuinely embrace the input of our parents and families and offer continual assessment and feedback with respect to our students, not only in academic achievement, but in social and behavioural aspects as well, with learning profiles supporting our academic school reports.
